Law for Change UC

Law for Change UC is a UCSA affiliated club and is openly available to every student on campus. Our kaupapa is to empower UC students to use their legal education in the public interest. The club encapsulates a diverse network of students all connected with this common mentality.

We are well-known for our collaboration project with Crimsoc and Community Law Canterbury “The Prison Education Project Te Wero | Te Ao. A volunteer run initiative comprised of law and criminal justice students, who deliver interactive seminars to youth offenders at Christchurch Men's Prison. The project has delivered seminars on life skills, Nga Pūkenga. Some of the relevant topics which have been covered have been employment, tenancy, family and consumer law. These topics were chosen to provide youth offenders with tools to empower themselves with the knowledge to form better relationships and habits. The idea and purpose behind this project is to establish a volunteering programme for law and criminal justice students to engage with youth inmates at Christchurch Men's Prison. Along with creating this opportunity for students this project has the objective of contributing to reducing prisoner recidivism and creating positive experiences for the youth inmates.

We are extremely excited to run a range of events throughout 2022, including a range of social/networking events and informative workshops and discussion panels that further advocate for change and active involvement within our community for the betterment and development of all.
