A programme for students to launch their entrepreneurial journey. We run workshops, a boot camp, assign 2 mentors for the top 10 teams and give away 50k of cash and in kind prizes.

What were the aims of the event or initiative?

To get students passionate about pursuing their business ideas. We connect like minded students with people in the Canterbury business community. Equip students with professional skills that will be relevant in all walks of life. We hope that some of these teams will continue with their business ideas, and if not that they have learnt a lot and met some cool people along the way. The finale of the challenge is an awards night held at the Great Hall.

How did you make it happen?

We collaborated with all our sponsors, particularly our platinum sponsors (UC, ANZ, pwC, cavell leitch) We reached out to Christchurch entrepreneurs to judge, mentor and run workshops for the competition.

How did you make it better?

This year we introduced a boot camp, assigned 2 mentors per team. We took the awards night off campus and had planned on having a top 10 cocktail evening but unfortunately covid interrupted that. We also offered weekly check ins with the teams, and frequent pitching practises to give them feedback.

How did you show your commitment to sustainability?

We included sustainability learnings in the program, to teach students sustainability in business which can take many different forms
