Brief overview of the event or initiative:

Coming off the success of last years event, Women in Law hosted our second Paint n Sip night for our Grand Launch of the club for 2021.

What were the aims of the event or initiative?

The aim of the event was to connect members, both returning and new. Rather than having a night where people are standing round and mingling, often going into small groups with pre-existing friends, we wanted to bring everyone together in an interactive event. This created an inclusive environment, and this unique event set us apart from other grand launch events. Everyone left with new friends, a sense of the clubs objective for the year, as well as a painting to keep.

How did you make it happen?

We partnered with the ladies from Paint n Sip to bring this event together. UCSA provided catering and beverages on arrival. The WIL exec participated and sat in different areas of the room, to help spark conversation with those who did not know anyone or were new. This ensured everyone felt included and welcomed to the club. Paint n Sip were kind enough to bring the event to life at a discounted rate, so members could create a beautiful floral masterpiece at a fraction of the cost of completing a regular session through Paint n Sip.

How did you make it better?

This year we started the event slightly earlier, with less speeches to introduce the event. Last year felt rushed, and it was almost stressful to keep up with the speed of the demonstrator painter. We kept a chill approach, giving everyone enough time in between steps. This was important especially for novice painters, who needed a little bit of extra time to get the hang of something new.

How did you show your commitment to sustainability?

Most of the paint supplies were provided by Paint n Sip. This meant we did not have to go and buy paintbrushes or paints that we would use once and throw away. There was no plastic at the event and all the helium balloons we used to spell WIL were from last year. The napkins used with catering were biodegradable, and we used glass cups as opposed to paper or plastic.
