Name of event or initiative:Bring a Verse from Home: Postgraduate Open Mic Night!
Brief overview of the event or initiative:

This open mic event celebrated our collective nostalgia for our homes. Performers across languages brought their favourite songs and stories, worries and joys from home. Our intention was to help everyone appreciate the commonalities in our international experience through artistic expression.

What were the aims of the event or initiative?

The aim of this event was to bring postgraduates together to share their stories.
1. Continual lockdown and inability to return home without affecting their studies has been a common theme for postgraduates since 2020.
2. We believed that with art and creative outlets we could address our hopes and stresses in this period: we hoped everyone suffering would take some solace in knowing they are not alone.
3. Fostering/promoting a sense of community and socialising amongst the postgraduate community at UC

How did you make it happen?

1. Secured support and sponsorship from PlainsFM, including prizes for the performers.
2. The UCSA provided the space and catering services
3. Promoted the event from international clubs on campus, including the UC Global Society and UC Spanish Club.
4. Our exec members promoted this amongst several of our networks
5. Promoted the event through social media platforms and Postgraduate research office.

How did you make it better?

1.Incentivized participation through prizes and nibbles,
2. Developed ties with groups outside the University to support the event including PlainsFM radio.
3. Promoted events to international communities through international student clubs on campus.
4. Recorded and broadcast performances for the international students radio program Studaemonia: availability further increase reach of the event to our international and remote based students

How did you show your commitment to sustainability?

1. The event was run mostly paperless, with focus on digital promotions and participation forms.
2. We did away with wasteful gift wraps for our prizes.
3. Audience giveaways were offered only to those who expressed interest, thus reducing throw away items.
