Name of event or initiative:Project 72
Brief overview of the event or initiative:

It is an event that aims to get the UC and Ōtautahi community together to spread awareness around men's mental health. The reason it is 72 hours is for 72% of suicides being male.

What were the aims of the event or initiative?

The aim of this event was to provide a safe space at university for students to come and have a casual chat or to just unwind from their day. We wanted this space to not be heavy or forceful but for it to be an inviting place for people to talk about anything they choose but know it is a safe space to speak about mental health.

How did you make it happen?

We got contributions from other clubs such as UCASS who lent us a dartboard for the three days. Since last year was the first time this event was held in 2021 we wanted to make it even bigger and better. We got multiple clubs at uni to come and bring an activity that was relevant to the club. We still wanted to keep it intimate and casual but see wanted the entirety of the UC community to see people they know getting involved.

How did you make it better?

Since 2020 was the first year this was run it was more low key which we definitely changed in 2021. We got local businesses such as Bacon Bros to show up and make some burgers. We got other clubs involved such as UCASS, CANTABS and CUBA to show up with activities. We made sure this event was involving the whole UC community almost as though it was a mini clubs day.

How did you show your commitment to sustainability?

The main point of this event was to help people create their own sustainable positive mental health journey. Opening a safe space for University students to aid in their mental health journey is all we strive for as a club. Being able to help people sustain good mental health is our priority.
