Name of event or initiative:Curry-Oke
Brief overview of the event or initiative:

This event was a new social event for Curry Soc involving Curry, BYO and Karaoke- the holy trinity of good times. A ticket to this event provided attendees with a Thai curry of choice, corkage and access to unlimited karaoke for the evening.

What were the aims of the event or initiative?

We wanted to create a new, exciting and never-before-seen event for our members. Typically, Curry Soc’s events consist of exclusively eating curry, which we love. But we thought it would be cool to push the boundaries and add another element to one of our curry nights. We hoped that this would attract new people and make people see Curry Soc in a new light.

How did you make it happen?

Our biggest challenge in pulling this event off was finding a venue that could provide curry, BYO and karaoke and was willing to accommodate 50 students. We also wanted the venue to be reasonably close to the uni area to make it easily accessible for our members. We were lucky to find Thai Chef which met all of these requirements. Once we had secured the venue, our executive and the amazing staff Thai Chef were able to do all of the organisation and running of the event.

How did you make it better?

We wanted to provide attendees with a diverse range of curry options and gave them the choice of 5 different curries. We took everyone's curry order before the event and gave these to Thai Chef in advance so that on the night the food came out quickly. We also had an exec member running the karaoke and taking people's song choices to ensure that everyone was able to have a turn singing. We allocated half the time to curry and half to karaoke so that attendees were able to enjoy both aspects equally.

How did you show your commitment to sustainability?

We made sure that there were vegan and vegetarian options and we encouraged attendees to take any leftovers home with them to reduce waste.
