|Name of event or initiative:||UC Football Uni League|
Brief overview of the event or initiative:
UC Football ran a social football league (Uni League) every Saturday morning of term 2 and 3 this year with 24 teams entered. Anyone can enter, either as a team or an individual and play footy! The aim is to bring people together who love the sport and keep active!
What were the aims of the event or initiative?
The aim of the event is to provide a fun social environment where any and all students can come together to play the beautiful game. By organising a social league it allows players to play without the commitment required for mainland leagues, is flexible to the uni terms, and brings students together. We believe playing football is also a great way to blow out any stress built up over the week, and creates a positive outlet for people.
How did you make it happen?
Our amazing Social Events Co-Ordinator Will Conibear was the main man behind this league. He organised playing fixtures, teams, and referees. The UC Football committee helps out with setting up the fields, but pretty much everything else is Will's work! While UC Football does have some awesome sponsors, Uni League is reasonably low cost - only cost is field hire (which we recieve a grant for) and paying referees. We have an entry fees, which works out to be only about $3 a game per player.
How did you make it better?
This year we were able to play the majority of games at ilam fields which was awesome to keep everyone together. We had referees scheduled for all games to keep things as fair as possible.
How did you show your commitment to sustainability?
Unfortunately sustainability did not factor into our organization- however we do believe that this event helps with overall club sustainability and wellbeing for our members.
