|Name of event or initiative:||CANTABS: Super Rugby Aotearoa Finals Crusaders VS Chiefs|
Brief overview of the event or initiative:
The Crusaders made it to the Super Rugby Aotearoa Finals and clinched home-field advantage! It would be rude not to have the Cantabs supporters out to support the Crusaders in winning their fifth consecutive title.
What were the aims of the event or initiative?
We brought rugby lovers, Crusaders fans and anyone else at UC wanting to get amongst one of the craziest and amazing live spectator experiences together. Our aim was to get a hold of some tickets to this final clash for the students to get the full student experience plus at an affordable price. Because we knew that if Drax Project was going to play during halftime, these ticket prices were not going to be student-friendly.
How did you make it happen?
We had to make some phone calls as soon as we found out that the Crusaders were playing a home final. The biggest advantage was having Aki interning at the Crusaders and therefore, was easily able to convince the team in selling cheaper tickets to Cantabs for the students. We were able to increase our capacity as we kept selling out after 10 minutes of our first and second release, where we really pushed it and was able to accommodate 350 students.
How did you make it better?
We made this event better by the corporation of UC, UCSA and Crusaders. The swift actions from all three parties made this event possible in only 10 days of planning. We wouldn't have been able to market and organise the logistics without the support and collaboration of Courtney from UC, James and Libby from UCSA and the Marketing and Commercial and ticketing manager at the Crusaders. The hype around the finals also made this event better and more attractive for the students.
How did you show your commitment to sustainability?
We showed our commitment to sustainability by providing transport from Haere Roa to the Stadium and back and also getting double-decker buses. We were also limiting the number of coveralls we were giving out.
