Mental Health Awareness Week

In case you’ve missed it, Mental Health Awareness Week started on Monday, and this year’s theme is Take Time to Kōrero! Running a club and being on an exec can be a stressful time – make sure you take time to look after yourselves. Remember, a little chat can go a long way!

If you’re on campus today, grab a friend and head along to Nuts & Bolts, The Foundry, or Collective, Therapy, Mix or Ancestral for buy 1 get 1 free on coffee! (Ts & Cs apply).

COVID Vaccination Clinic

As you may be aware, we are hosting a COVID Vaccination Clinic in Haere-roa next Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th of October. If you are not vaccinated yet, or if you are ready for, but have not yet had your second vaccination, this is a great opportunity to get it done!

We’ve also been asked to pass on this message from Rosa Hibbert-Schooner:

Tēnā tātou e te whānau whanui o Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha,

Ko Rosa toku ingoa and I am the president of Te Akatoki Maori students association.

I hope everyone’s going well, trying to study and being supported through these uncertain times.

I am reaching out to you all with a very exciting kaupapa and opportunity coming up in the next week.

As you may have seen on Tuesday October 5th and Wednesday 6th in the Tī Kouka room at Haere roa. With this being so soon the planning around what these days will look and feel like for students and how the promotion is done is very important. I have identified you all as some key contacts who I think need to be involved in the activations on the day to get students to the site and vaccinated !!!!

It would be really cool to have as many student clubs with a well-being focus or just who endorse students getting vaccinated!!

If you group is interested and want to help out see the information below.

I have also attached some comms you can guys put out to your students around this 🙂

Supreme Club Awards Finalists

Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination. We received over 140 nominations, and so trying to select finalists has been a very difficult job for the panel.

All those who submitted a nomination should have received an email letting them know if they are a finalist or not. Congratulations to all those who have been selected as finalists, and best of luck to all clubs for 2022!

Keep an eye on the News Section of the UCSA Website from 2pm Today (29 September) to see the full list of finalists.

At this stage due to the Level 2 restrictions, attendance at the Supreme Club Awards is limited to 2 executive members per finalist club only, and those finalists for individual contribution awards. Please make sure to check your junk folder for your invitation in case it has been caught up by your spam filter – these will be sent out this week.

If we move to Level 1 prior to the event occurring, we intend to release further tickets, and aim to be able to invite all clubs that submitted a nomination in 2021.

A quick reminder also that if all event nomination finalists are eligible for UC’s Supreme Event – as chosen by UC – so make sure to share the voting link with your members when it goes live! Keep an eye on our socials for the link.

Well done on everything you have achieved this year, and best of luck for 2022!

QPay Feedback

Thanks for the four responses we’ve had so far around QPay. This feedback will directly influence the system for 2022, so it’s really crucial you give us some feedback we can action.

We have extended the deadline to this Friday at 10am. Please please get it done.

COVID Alert Level Update

We are constantly reviewing the advice given to clubs against the latest advice from the Government, and you can see our latest advice here:

Alert Level 2 Guidelines

We have a had a few clubs reach out and ask if Private Social Gatherings apply to their club. These can do, provided you meet the requirements outlined.

What is a private social gathering?
A private social gathering is informal and involves getting together with friends and whānau you regularly socialize with.
Private social gatherings can include:
o Birthday parties, stag dos, hens parties, baby showers or a celebration of a significant life event with friends and whānau
o A social gathering organised through work or school
o Family dinners
o Social club get-togethers — for example, book clubs, musical or cultural groups or hobby groups
o Weddings and civil union ceremonies.

What is not a private social gathering?
Private social gatherings do not include:
o Events open to non-members
o Events with guest speakers invited
o Events not purely of a social nature

If you have questions about running events in Alert Level 2, feel free to reach out to the UCSA clubs team via clubs@ucsa.org.nz or 03 369 0555 and select prompt 1, prompt 1. We’re here to help and very happy to give advice and guidance!

That’s it for now!

Congratulations on making it to the end of this week’s newsletter.

As always, anything else, feel free to reach out!

Thanks,

James, Fiona, Ben, Carlos & Dana
